The Jeane Dixon Effect
Mathematician John Allen Paulos, came up with the term “Jeane Dixon effect”, to describe the phenomenon where a psychic’s supporters will ignore their idol’s failures and at the same time lend more credence to their successes, or perceived successes, than they deserve. Jeanne Dixon is supposed to have predicted JFK’ assassination, but although she correctly predicted that the holder of the office would be assassinated or die in office, she actually thought that it would be Richard Nixon.
Among Dixon’s predictions that did not come true were a cure for cancer, world peace by the year 2000 and Russia winning the race to the moon.
Here is a 1976 video on psychics.
